William Addison Canon (June 26,1797- abt 1840) mentioned in your posting is my gggrandfather. The Francis King "Sketch of Our Canon Family" came into my records several years ago along with an interesting "Sketch of Our Golden Family", also by the same John W. Canon of Blum, Texas, dated 12 Sept 1904. I looked for the Golden Family "Sketch" both on "Canon Family Genealogy Forum" and tried "Golden Family" in a search.. but with no results. It may not be on a web site but you might be interested as the "Sketch" included info about several Canons which in my case
enabled me to trace backward from William Addison Canon.
For instance, John W. Canon refers to his brother "Add". Also, a reference is made to "Uncle Alfred" of Pickens county who later moved to Marshall county but its not clear yet if this person was a Canon or a Golden. John W. Canon, his mother, and presumably brother Addison then moved in 1849 to Rusk County (TX), and so on. There was also a sister,Charlotte (who married a Wesley Reid) and another brother, W.C Canon in Sunflower, Miss.
Some comments away from the Golden "Sketch". "Addison" was James Addison Canon (b 13 Nov. 1832, Mecklinburg, NC, d. 11 Feb 1914) and who was my ggrandfather moved to Sterling County, Texas. His son, John William Canon, (b. 31 Dec 1865, d. 26 Sep. 1951)..my grandfather, was one of the pioneers in sheep ranching in Pecos County Tx in 1895 after the Apaches were gone. My father, Charles C.Canon (b. 1895, d. 1966), remembered as a boy, an uncle "John" Canon who lived with the family for a time on the Pecos county lower ranch (later, part of Terrell county). This "John" had been in the civil war so this person was no doubt a great uncle of my father possibly the same "John W. Canon" who wrote those intriguing sketches of the Canon and Golden families. But I am not positive. I certainly would appreciate any information on this individual who led a most interesting life, even if its not the same individual as our Uncle John in Pecos County of whom I know little. Sincerely, George M. Canon
I also note in my records a photo of the grave marker of Cora Canon Raiford in Red Banks, Miss. as well as the one for Robert A. Raiford.
