I am seeking the identity of William Cannon who was in the 1820 Hall Co., GA, census in Capt. Reid's District, p. 138. Here is the composition: 1 male aged 18-26 (born 1794-1802) 2 males under 10 (born 1810-1820) 1 female aged 16-26 (born 1794-1804) Next door was Thomas Cantril, who appears to match the description of Thomas Cantrell, father of Jemima Cantrell who married John Cannon in 1824 in Hall Co., Georgia. Was there a link between William Cannon and John Cannon? William was likely to be the William Cannon in the following land records: 03 Nov 1821 Hall Co., Georgia. Deed Book A, p. 156; Film 0454858. Asa Falkner to William Cannon, both of Hall Co., for $150, 250 acres in the 11th District, Lot 76. Witnesses: Charles Hulsy, J.P.; Aron Pate. Recorded 18 Jul 1822, David H. McCloskey, Clk. 07 Dec 1822 Hall Co., Georgia. Deed Book A, p. 279; Film 0454358. William Cannon and Benjamin Goss, both of Hall Co., for $500, 250 acres in the 11th District, Lot 76. Witnesses: Thomas Putman, Burwell Johnston. Proved by the appearance of Thomas Putman, 14 Jun 1823 before Jesse Dobbs, J. P. Recorded 31st [sic] June 1823. Researchers who have posted information on www.rootsweb.com, WorldConnect project, show that Charles Hulsey, Benjamin Goss, Thomas Putman, and Thomas Cantrell all had lived in Pendleton District, South Carolina, before coming to Georgia. This makes me wonder if this William Cannon also came from Pendleton District, where my Cannons lived. One of my ancestors there was Russell Cannon, b c1752/3 VA, d 1824 Pendleton District, SC. His father was Simcock Cannon. I think that the John Cannon who married Jemima Cantrell in Hall Co., GA, in 1824 was the son either of Richard Cannon of Greenville & Pendleton districts, SC, or William Cannon of Greenville District, SC, who were very likely brothers of Russell. John Cannon was born about 1784 in SC, so he was about 40 at the time of his marriage. Was he married before? Was William Cannon of Hall Co., GA, related to John Cannon or/and the Simcock Cannon family? Notify Administrator about this message?
