Jonathan Cannon appears to have been the father of these Cannons, who appear in his household or next door to him in the 1850 Cherokee Co., Alabama, census. See my message just before this one. I believe that Jonathan's father was named William, of Greenville & Pendleton districts, SC, and that William may have been a son of Simcock Cannon, who was found in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. Richard Cannon (b c1755/60), about the same age or a little younger than William (b c1753/54), had a son, Russell E., whose son Elisha named a son Irby also. Perhaps this is just a coincidence, but it makes me wonder if there was a familial tie between Richard and William. Richard was also in Greenville and Pendleton Districts, SC, before he moved to Habersham Co., GA, where he died in 1831. Jonathan's apparent children, and this may not be all of them: Irby, b c1822, McMinn Co., Tennessee Thomas, b c1830 in Monroe Co., Tennessee Louisa, b c1834, TN Jane, b c1836, TN Emiline, b c1838, TN Irby married Minerva Fuller 7 Dec 1843 in Calhoun Co., AL. Thomas married Rebecca Fuller about 1848. Minerva and Rebecca's parents were Benjamin Fuller and Rebecca Youngblood. Sometimes Irby's name is spelled Erby. Some of this information about Jonathan's children comes from the 1850 Cherokee Co., AL, census, and some comes from a web page of Christine Brodnax, ccbx106@directvinternet.com, on www.rootsweb.com, WorldConnect project, last updated 2 Feb 2003; accessed 26 Mar 2008. A message on 18 Apr 1999 on ancestry.com's Cannon board by Betty K. Fritts, fritts@hilconet.com, stated that Jonathan Cannon married Nancy McKenzie in Monroe Co., TN. I think this would have been a second marriage. I could not find these Cannons in McMinn Co. or Monroe Co., TN, or in Calhoun Co., AL, but I have not tried to locate deeds or tax records for them. Can anyone provide more information about these Cannons? Notify Administrator about this message?
