Yes, there were two Russell Cannons. The one I descend from was a son of Simcock Cannon (b c1725/30 perhaps in VA, d aft 1803 in vacinity of Buncombe Co., NC, & Greenville Co., SC). Russell, son of Simcock, was born about 1752/53 perhaps in Prince Edward Co., VA; d 1824 in Pendleton District,SC; will filed in Anderson Co., SC; lived in a part that became Pickens Co., SC). His wife was Jane Campbell.

It appears that this Russell was a brother of Richard Cannon, who lived near him before eventually moving to Habersham Co., GA, and whose descendants' Y-DNA results match well with those of a descendant of this Russell. Richard was the father of Russell E. Cannon, b 1796/7.

Simcock Cannon's wife was Jane Rudd. Jane Rudd's mother Hannah appears to have been a Russell, although this has not been proved. If that is true, your Russell and my Russell were named for her line.
