lucy thanks so much for your reply. this is all so interesting. we are participating in the harris dna project. my charles harris, who married my jane cannon in 1807 pendleton co, sc, was the son of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, who died in 1799 laurens co, sc. my william harris, jr was the son of my william harris, sr/ frances goode, daughter of my mackerness goode, sr, who were in lunenburg co, va by 1746. i am still trying to learn or confirm the father of my william harris, sr/ frances goode but we are a match with those in harris dna group 8, tracing back to our captain thomas harris, 1611 of jamestown and his son, our major william harris, who died 1678 henrico co, va. our major william harris' 2nd wife, alice, re-married george alvis and our william harris, wife, mary, said to be a giles, b ca 1672 and his brother, edward harris, also, wife, mary, b ca 1674, moved with their mother, alice, and george alvis to new kent/ hanover cos, va. this is said to have been our william harris/ mary giles, who obtained a patent on cubb creek hanover/ louisa co, va in 1725. per the info, george alvis was married, 1st unknown, and his daughter susan alvis married john ellitt. this was their daughter elizabeth ellitt who married samuel mc gehee who were also in louisa co, va. so, this is certainly very interesting that my jane cannon harris, mother elizabeth cole cannon's cole family would have probably known and been involved with this same mc gehee family in louisa co, va. thanks again so much for your info and reply. belva harris cauthen Notify Administrator about this message?
