Canney/Hennessy from Middlesex Co., MA
I'm trying to connect with descendants of Mary Hennesy/Canney.According to her Civil War pension papers, her father was John Hennessy but her descendants were under the impression that her name was Mary Canney.
From a letter I have, it's clear that her mother married someone named Canney.I don't know whether her father, John Hennessy, had died, or if this was a case of divorce. She had a brother John Hennessy and either a brother or step brother named Andy. She also had a step brother named Thomas who was residing in Cape Colony, South Africa probably around the 1880's.I'm not really sure of the time period.
The Canneys and the Hennessy's seemed to have been residing in Birmingham, Eng around the 1850's.
Mary Hennessy married in St. Peter's Catholic Chapel, Birmingham, Eng. on 22 Jan. 1854 to Barny/Bernard Healey/Healy and according to his Declaration of Intent papers, he came to America (Boston) on the 26th of Sept. 1854.
The 1880 and 1900 census states her occupation as a nurse.
It's believed that she was born in Co. Clare, Ire.Bernard was born in Co. Roscommon, Ire.
