When did Cannells first come to the U.S?

Does anyone know when Cannells first came to the U.S. and whether any immigrated from France? We have always pronounced the name with emphasis on the last syllable. I can trace back from my father, Humberston Skipwith Cannell, Jr.; my grandfather, Humberston Skipwith Cannell, Sr.; my great grandfather, Simon Wilmer Cannell (and wife Sarah Skipwith); my gg grandfather, Isaac Cannell, Jr. (and wife Sarah Wilmer); my ggg grandfather, Isaac Cannell (wife unknown); and finally to my gggg grandfather, Jerome Cannell (and wife Elizabeth Wa.....) in Kent County, Maryland in abt. 1733. That's where I loose the trail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mary
