African American Cannaday Franklin VA

Hi All,

I am researching African American Cannaday's in Franklin county VA this is what I have.

Mimia Bennett born 1857 in Franklin county, VA(I was told that her father/slave owner was a Cannaday)

Her mother was Teresseia (maiden name unknown) born 1832 she married Richard Cannaday in 1865. Teresseia had a total of 12 or 13 children 5 of these were born during slavery-2 girls Mimia Bennett and Gillie (maiden name unknown) and 3 boys I was told that all 3 boys went west and passed for White.

All of the African American Cannadays in my line to seem to have a gap between their front teeth, extremely fair and are tall, Mimia was 6 ft tall. With Mimia I was told that her slave owner father had planned for her to marry a White person since she looked White instead she married a Black Man.

I will be reading wills hoping to find the slave owner and take the line back further. If anyone can be of any assistance that would be great or if I can help anyone please let me know.

Peace

Mona
