I am trying to find information about Harriet Jane Cann who was born to Capt. James Dane Cann and Harriet Killam c1846. Her family was from Yarmouth Nova Scotia but at the age of 24 is shown as a scholar (!) at a convent school in East Grinstead in the South of England in the 1871 census. Two years later, she married my Gt Grandfather in Yorkshire, England. Does anyone have information about the Canns that could explain how a young lady from Nova Scotia could end up in the UK?
