I have a long list of names and dates of descendents of the Cann family from Elmwood area (lived for many years at 742 Martin Ave) in Winnipeg. My mother is the daughter of Joseph Frederick Cann (married Dec 31, 1918 to Sarah Haskitt (May) Hall). Children: Irene Phyllis Born March 14, 1923 in Winnipeg (married Sydney W. (Vic) Bester) Died in 1975 in Winnipeg; Leslie John Born May 25, 1925 in Winnipeg - Died September 16, 1944 in Italy during WWII (a lake in Northern Manitoba is named after him for giving his life for his country-my mother was presented with the papers being the eldest surviving family member);Velma Lois (my mother) Born April 28, 1927 in Winnipeg Manitoba (married twice: 1st to Jack Hadden (died in 1956 or 57) in Kamloops, BC & 2nd to Cecil Wilfrid Joseph Gilbert Gagnon) having 4 children (Leslie, Donna, Gail (which is myself) & Cheryl); Harold Ernest Born December 15, 1928 in Winnipeg (married Emily Jane Millar) died in 1990's sometime; Robert (Bobby) James Born March 14, 1931 in Winnipeg - Died July 3, 1995; Lorne Samuel Born June 12, 1933 in Winnipeg (married Elsie Prost); Beverley Florence Born July 31, 1936 in Winnipeg (married Frank Ford); Ronald Brian Born August 11, 1939 in Winnipeg (married Virginia Kowerko); and Shirley Elizabeth Born June 21, 1942 in Winnipeg (married Ronald Streib.
Joseph Frederick's parents were Samuel Wilson Cann Born October 1, 1857 on a farm near Port Hope,Ontario - Died March 5, 1932 buried in Elmwood Cemetary & Margaret Elizabeth McArthur Born July 22, 1859 - Died October 10, 1951 buried in Elmwood Cemetary in Winnipeg. They married October 18, 1881 at or near Port Elgin, Ontario. Their children are: Beatrice May (John Thomas Atkinson); Arthur Wilson (Jessie McFarlane); Loren Wellington (Myrtle Spinks); Harvey Ernest (Army G. Gething); Margaret Pearl (Jack Bussell & Norman McPhie); Joseph Frederick (Sarah (May) Haskitt Hall (my grandparents); Olive Lillian (an aunt my mom was close to and who I remember also (Fred Hofley); Emma Elizabeth; and Myrtle Evelyn (Bonner Buckborough).
Samuel Wilson's parents were: John Cann from somewhere in Yorkshire, England and Hannah Wilson from Yorkshire, England. Their children are: Mary Ann (Thomas Darling); Lizzie (James O'Brien); George; Emma (William O'Brien); Clara (Charles Wilson); Louise (McMann); Tillie (Harper); William Henry; my gr. grandparents - Samuel Wilson (Margaret Mcarthur); Fred; they are listed on my records of all being born in Port Hope, Ontario, sorry have no dates.
I also have names of the parents for Margaret Elizabeth McArthur: Joseph McArthur Born May 15, 1933 in Sight Hill, Scotland - Died June 27, 1909 in Port Elgin, Ontario and Margaret McLean (nee Johnson or Johnston) Born March 19, 1817 in Anderson Scotland - died June 21, 1901 in Port Elgin, Ontario. Their children are: John Alexander born 1855(Louise Van Camp); Joseph Andrew born 1856 (Annie Kelso); and my gr grandparents Margaret Elizabeth born 1859 (Samuel Wilson Cann).
