My Great Great Grandfather was Cornelius (Canine/Cornine/Carnine/ Kanine depending upon whoever was writing it in whatever paper)born 1804/1805, in New York, Father born in New York, Mother born in New York, according to census records. He died in Lawrence County, Missouri in 1883.

The name Cornelius was used often with the history I have researched and the name John was also used often. In the 1860 Lawrence County, MO census there was an Elizabeth Terry listed with the Canine family and said to be born in Ohio. I have always wondered if this Elizabeth was perhaps a sister of my Cornelius, even though it appears my Cornelius migrated to the Kentucky, Tennessee, area from New York.

My Great Grandmother, (Cornelius daughter) was named Elizabeth Mary Catherine Carnine/Canine, etc. Does any of this fit into the Canine family you are researching? If so, contact me at and we will compare notes.
