Caroline, James, William Candy

Hi I am currently looking for information pertaining to Caroline Candy. Caroline was apparently born in Donhead, Wiltshire (census records say 1834, but it makes her pretty old at the time of her children's birth) and we think her father was William Candy. The confusion comes in because my g grandfather's birth cert says that Caroline was married to a William Candy and her father was a William Candy.
She had two (possibly illegitimate) sons, James and William. James was born in 1869 at Portsea Parish (he is my ancestor), his brother was older than he. William and James both immigrated to NZ where Caroline followed (William was in the Navy and James in the Army).
We currently have no information other than the fact that she worked as a Nurse at the Portsea Poorhouse for some time and James was a Scholar there (this info from census records). We have no confirmation of her parentage.
We were told our branch of the Candys had a family farm in England for hundred(s) of years (this may or may not be true?). James was very musical and this has stayed in the family.
Could you please let me know if you have any information on our branch of the Candy tree.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is a big gap in our family history.
