John Candee was born 16 Apr 1750 in Middletown, CT, son of Capt. Theophilus Candee & Hannah Bacon. On 14 Sept 1775 he married Hannah Gilbert, who died 16 Apr 1781.

John and Hannah had 3 children:
Samuel Candee, b 1 July 1776
John Candee, b 30 Nov 1778
Hannah Candee, b. 31 Mar 1781
