Canales also a slave name

Looking through the website www.preb.com, came across a slave named Canales who took part in a rebellion in Bayamon. He either died in jail or was executed.

Canales is one of my family names. Yes, it is a hidalgo name that can be looked up in the Real Chancelleria in Valladolid, Catalan actually (the root is Canal), and it also shows up as a Sephardic name but it's also a slave name as well; presumably the owner's name was Canales. Interesting history.
