I am researching the Gabel family in order to find out where they came from in Austria.
This couple came to the Pheasant Forks area in 1902, with 5 children born in Austria: Katherina (1885-1954), Fred (1891-1972), Barbara (1892-1955), Karoline (1895-1969) and Jacob (1902-1985). Another son, Adam was born in Sask. in 1904 and passed away in 1958.I obtained copy of the Land Title Certificate and Dominion Land Grant but no info on there, only that the postal address was Lemberg, Sask.
I have looked at the microfilms from the Canada
Archives of all passengers coming in on boats to the maritimes and Quebec in 1902 and found nothing.
Katherina Shick was the daughter of John Shick and Barbara Schneider, and I believe she had uncles or cousins living in Pheasant Forks also, by the name of Schneider.
So they got to Sask. in 1902 and in Sept 1904, Jacob passed away after an accident on the farm with runaway horses.Hopefully, someone reading this might remember hearing of this terrible accident.
I would like to order birth certificates for Jacob and Katherina and Jacob Jr. and unles I find out the name of the town they lived in in austria, I can go no further in my search. I would like my grandchildren to know their roots in Austria.
Hoping someone can give me a lead.
