I actually have a good hold on my family names at the moment, so I’m hoping this enquiry isn’t out of line on this message board. It’s more about history. I have a copy of the wonderful book called “A Land Harvested by Faith 1884 – 1994 Wakaw” The history is fascinating, but I’m having trouble with factual information for my pioneer family members. My great grandfather Ferenc Vinis (Vinish) left Herczegfalva Hungary and arrived in the Rosthern/Wakaw SK area in 1902. I’m having trouble locating data on his date of entry to Canada and the ship’s name. Ferenc left behind his pregnant wife and 4 children to follow later. In the meantime the infant and the wife died. The Hungarian death records show Fernec was in America. (July 28, 1902) Son Josef born March 11. 1902 Birth record shows father was in America And died July 26, 1902 @ 4 months. – father in America That’s as close as I can narrow any dates down. In 1903 the four children, Ferenc, Paul, John and Anna were accompanied to Canada by an aunt and uncle, Josef Braun. (I have no information on these family members) I’ve been told they arrived in Canada around Easter and both ships arrived in Halifax. Once again we’re unable to find their names on any ships passenger lists. I have a copy of my grandfather’s “Naturalisation Certificate”, it only declares he had been in Canada no less than 3 years – no dates of arrival given as I gather the American naturalization papers provide. As there was a community of people from Herczegfalva who travelled together and settled in the Wakaw area during the same years, I was wondering if anyone knows the ports these immigrants would have sailed from and any dates of arrival or ships’ names of relatives for 1902 and 1903? Thank you. Judy Mann (nee Vinish)
