No, I do not have his death certificate. He was born about 1845 in Scotland and came to Elgin County, Ontario, sometime in the 1850s. His father, Neil McBride, died before the 1861 census of Dunwich Township in which his mother Barbara was listed as a widow. In 1879 he sold his farm and moved west appearing in the 1881 census with his mother, wife (Mary) and daughten (Mary J., 10 years old). Thus far I have found no record of the marriage or birth.

His mother died on June 4, 1887 and listed John as the informant living in Township 14, Range 19 West.

We believe he died on September 4, 1927 at Coleville SK. Obituaries of other family members (a brother and sister) in 1927 stated that he was in Coleville.

As far as we know the rest of his family were in, or near, Dunwich Township, Elgin County, Ontario although some cousins may have headed west including an ARchibald McTavish whom I believe later also went to the area near Coleville.

The John McBride in the link you mentioned is not my man as mine came from Elgin and not Dufferin County. This does confirm for me that there was a second John McBride in Saskatchewan from Ontario.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jim.
