Hi John;
Actually, no. I've only just aquired this
information a few months ago. Someone researching the name 'Laroche' thought the name LaRonge might be another version of it. She'd accumulated quite alot on
LaRonge when she ran accross queries posted by the late Mr. Richard Casey and between both of them determined that they were two seperate names. However, it was Mr.Casey who'd researched what I have on Adolph and
his decendants and, to the best of my knowledge, most of that was extracted from the National Archives, some from a faculty member at the Univ. of Wis., and some from an elderly aunt of his(by the name of LaRonge). The person researching the name 'Laroche' decided to keep it until she found someone interested. That someone was me. My
grandmother was Heloise LaRonge born 1903-4
on the Lac Courtre Oreilles Resv. to Joseph LaRonge (b.1867) and Emily Sinnette(b.1870) Joseph was the last child of Adolph and Sophia. Mr. Casey has written some family history on Adolph and his
settling in WI for the 'faculty member' who has a web page called ONLINE FRENCH CONNECTIONS. And yes, I'm American. I live in
Henderson,NV(12 miles south of Las Vegas). Both parents are deceased which is why I have
little knowledge of my heiritage on my paternal side. My mother came to Vegas from Portland,OR., to divorce my father (Walter Louis Lozon)and ended up staying. My mother refused to talk of her marriage to Walt but what little she did say was that he was half 'Chippewa' and half French. My father was born on the Lac Courtre Oreilles Resv. 6-1-1923 and died in Portland,OR 12-12-73. I never knew him.
I've read on-line that 'Chippewa' was used as the 'official' name in writting the treaties between the American Gov. and the Chippewa/Ojibwa tribes. 'Ojibwa' is Canadian.
However, I belive both names refere to the same people.
I hope I haven't confused the issue.

P.S. Adolph Laronge was said to be part indian although, back in those days you didn't admit to it. It could prove dangerous.
