Hi Mary,

It is an interesting document. There are a few unusual twists, such as the old spelling of some words, e.g. "moy" for "moi", "scavoir" for "savoir", as well as a variant spelling of the mother's surname "Marquot" which today would be spelled Marcot or Marcotte. There was one little phrase near the end that I could not interpret.

<< On the 4th day of April, in the year 1717, by myself the undersigned priest, the pastor of Grondines and the missionary to the parish of LaChevrotière, was baptised a child christened Eustache, born on the same date, the son of Henry Belisle and Geneviève Marquot his legitimate wife, of the parish of LaChevrotière. The godfather was his brother Henry Belile, and the godmother was Marie-Louise (ditto). The godfather signed this with me, but the godmother declared that she did not know how to sign her name... in accordance with the regulations.
[Signed] Hanry Belile, Father Menage >>

Cheers,

Bob
