Hi Colleen,

Annie gave you most, but I did find one more birth for son Francis Alfred, baptized 1890 in Hemmingford.

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about F A Humphries
Name:       F A Humphries
Event:       Naissance (Birth)
Baptism Year:       1890
Baptism Location:       Hemmingford, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Presbyterian Church and Church of England

Baptism April 24, 1890 - born February 20, 1890
Father is Hiram John Humphries and mother s Catherine Jane Lavois (could be Lavoir)

**************

There is a burial for an Aliver (Oliver) Laware in 1933 Hemmingford. He is indexed under LAWARE but in the image it says at the side margin LAVOIR and then in the actual record it has Oliver Lavoir (Laware). He was age 73 when he died so born about 1860 so possible brother for Catherine.

Signatures at bottom show Mach Laware and Albert Laware but does not say how they are related.

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Aliver Laware
Name:       Aliver Laware
Event:       Enterrement (Burial)
Burial Year:       1933
Burial Location:       Hemmingford, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Presbyterian Church and Church of England

** so again the possible spelling of LAVOIR for LAWARE

I think this may be Catherine with family in 1881 - I did a search for Oliver to see if I could find him and this seems to fit and he has a sister Katherine - spelled with a K.

1881 HUNTINGTON, HEMMINGFORD, QUEBEC
LAWAU (as indexed)
Joseph, age 50, farmer, born Quebec, Catholic, French

Jane, age 40, born Quebec, Methodist, Scotch

Robert, age 23, farmer, born Quebec Methodist

Maggie, age 21, dress maker, born Quebec, Methodist

Oliver, age 19, farmer's son, born Quebec, Methodist

Katherine, age 17, born Quebec, Methodist

David, age 15, farmer's son, born Quebec, Methodist

Joseph, age 13, born Quebec, Methodist

Mary, age 11, born Quebec, Methodist

Samuel, age 5, born Quebec, Methodist

Susan, age 3, born Quebec, Methodist

In the image it is hard to tell if the spelling of surname is Lawau or Laware

So her surname spelled somewhat differently from Laware.

AND here they are in 1871 with family name shown as LAVOIS in index

1871 HEMMINGFORD, HUNTINGDON EAST, QUEBEC
LAVOIS
Joseph, age 30, farmer, born Quebec, Catholic

Jane, age 34, born Quebec, Methodist

Robert J., age 13

Maggie, age 12

Oliver, age 11

Catherine, age 9

David, age 7

Joseph, age 5

Elizabeth, age 3 months (dec.)

Alice, age 3

in this census all are shown born Quebec and all children shown as Catholic

1861 HUNTINGDON, CANADA EAST
LAMARE (as indexed)

Joseph, age 30, farmer

Jane, age 24

Robert, age 4

Marg., age 3

Oliver, age 1

all are shown born Lower Canada

Here is death of Jane

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Jane McIntyre
Name:       Jane McIntyre
Event:       Enterrement (Burial)
Burial Year:       1902
Burial Location:       Hemmingford, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Presbyterian Church and Church of England

Jane McIntyre, widow of Joseph Laware, deceased of the township of Hemmingford, County of Huntingdon, died on the 13th day of April 1902 and was buried by me on the 15th day of the same month and year in the presence of subscribing witnesses. J.R. Hodgon, Minister
Witnesses- Maggie Laware, Susie E. Laware
*****************

There is also a death in Hemmingford for Susan Laware, wife of George Kingsbury of Morris, NY, USA . It says she died at home of paralysis May 9, 1928 and was buried in Hemmingford.

There is a Mary Ellen Laware born Oct. 2, 1901 Hemmingford, daughter of Oliver Laware and wife Grace Capper II think this is what her name is)

Also a Robert McIntyre Laware and a William Henry Laware sons of Oliver and Grace (her name looks like Grace Emily Hepper or Nepper in this record)
Robert born March 2, 1904 and William born May 28, 1906 - both baptized Dec. 12, 1909

On same page is Bessie May Kingsbury and Irene Margaret Kingsbury, daughter of George Edward Kingsbury and Susan Elizabeth Laware
Irene born Oct. 13, 1904 at Morris, NY
Bessie born May 28, 1906 Morris NY. Both baptized Dec. 12, 1909

Mary Ellen Laware, daughter of Oliver Laware and Grace Napper, married Dorsey Galerd Stinson in Hemmingford Village Nov. 22, 1922
Witnesses - Ernest and Sadie Moore

AND I finally found birth for Catherine

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Catherine Jane Lavoix
Name:       Catherine Jane Lavoix
[Catherine Jane Laroix]
Event:       Naissance (Birth)
Baptism Year:       1862
Baptism Location:       Hemmingford, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Presbyterian Church and Church of England

Catherine Jane, daughter of Joseph and Jane Laroux (Laroix/Lavoix) born in Hemmingford on the 22nd day of November 1861, was baptized by me on the 1st day of April 1862. H. Bland, Minister
Witnesses - Maria and William Jackson

on same day Peggy Laroix was baptized, same parents, she was born Aug. 26, 1858.

I gave several spellings of Lavois as it was hard to tell which is right in the image.

I went back to 1901 and 1891 census to see if Joseph was still living

1901 HEMMINGFORD, HUNTINGDON, QUEBEC
LAVOIE
Jane, age 62, born May 28, 1838 Quebec - widowed

Joseph H., age 30, son, born Oct. 9, 1870 Quebec

Susie E., age 23, daughter, school teacher, born Nov. 29, 1877Quebec

1891 HEMMINGFORD VILLAGE, HUNTINGDON, QUEBEC
LOUISE (as indexed)
Jane, age 52, widowed, born Quebec

Robert, age 32, son, labourer born Quebec

Joseph, age 23, son, laborer, born Quebec

Mannie, age 21, daughter , born Quebec (looks like Mamie to me)

Samuel, age 15, son, born Quebec

Susan, age 14, daughter, born Quebec

**************
so, as Jane is widowed in 1891 Joseph must have died between 1881 and 1891

Here he is - so it seems the name was shown as Laware, Lavois, Larois etc. in different records.

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Joseph Lavois
Name:       Joseph Lavois
Event:       Enterrement (Burial)
Burial Year:       1884
Burial Location:       Hemmingford, Québec (Quebec)
Place of Worship or Institution:       Presbyterian Church and Church of England

Jospeh Lavois of the township of Hemmingford ,County of Huntingdon, frame, died on the 24th day of November 1884 and was buried by me on the 26th day of said month and said year. Henry Meyers, Methodist Minister
witnesses - Jane Laware and Magie Laware

I still have not found a marriage for Catherine and Hiram.

If I find more on this family I will let you know, but all for now.

Carolyn L
