Hi Forrest,

I have been having trouble finding his birth so started with looking for his parent's marriage and they were married in Baie-du-Febvre

Here is his parent's marriage.

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Louis Cottes
Name:       Louis Cottes
[Louis Cote]
Spouse:       Marie Josephe Benois
Event Year:       1767
Event:       Mariage (Marriage)
Religion:       Catholique
Place of Worship or Institution:       Baie-du-Febvre
Province:       Québec

It says:
October 26, 1767 after publication of three banns, marriage of Louis Cotte, son of Isidore Cotte and Josephte Greman , father and mother of this Parish o the first part and Marie Josephe Benois, daughter of Gabrielle Benois and Marie Houde, father and mother of this Parish on the other part. Int he presence of Louis Courchareu, Disidore Cotte, Joseph Couchine, and Jospeh Habridas.

** I am not sure but it may say that Marie Houde is deceased - hard to read.
** so, since they married in 1767 , Antoine would be born after that and most likely in Baie-du-Febvre

So I tried again using name Cotte/Cottes and here he is

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Antoine Cottes
Name:       Antoine Cottes
Event Year:       1773-1785
Event:       Naissance (Birth)
Religion:       Catholique
Place of Worship or Institution:       Baie-du-Febvre
Province:       Québec

It says:
August 23, 1774- 1775 (not sure which) baptism of Antoine , born the previous day of the marriage of Louis Cottes and Josepht Benois. Sponsors Antoine .............and Marguerite Caille.

** cannot read surname of Antoine the sponsor

** so Antoine when married in 1801 would about 26 or 27 years old.

Also using spelling Cottes I found marriage for Joseph and Marie Jeanne Houde

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Joseph Cottes
Name:       Joseph Cottes
Spouse:       Marie Jeanne Houde
Event Year:       1773-1785
Event:       Mariage (Marriage)
Religion:       Catholique
Place of Worship or Institution:       Baie-du-Febvre
Province:       Québec

** the writing for this one is quite faint and hard to read so I cannot read their parent's names. Actually I cannot read much of it at all other than they married October 3, and the year looks like 1774.

Here is baptism of Angelique, daughter of Joseph and Jeanne

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 about Marie Angelique Cottes
Name:       Marie Angelique Cottes
Event Year:       1773-1785
Event:       Naissance (Birth)
Religion:       Catholique
Place of Worship or Institution:       Baie-du-Febvre
Province:       Québec

It says: March 14, 1778 (first time I have seen the year written in numerals) baptism of Marie Angelique, born the previous day of marriage of Joseph Cottes, and Marie Jeanne Houde. Sponsors Antoine Houde and Marie Louise Cote

So it seems that they used the spelling of Cotte/Cottes earlier on.

Carolyn L
