Dear friend: At long last, I know the names of these people. Wonderful. Your kindness and generosity is overwhelming. Yes, May and her husband left Vermont and moved up to Arundel where he was a blacksmith as you say. Gilbert was a blacksmith as was his son George-my great grandfather.
Mary's husband is referred to here as Dolphus and the family name as Gilbo. Once in Quebec, the French version was used. Is it possible to find the deaths of Eugene and his wife? I am assuming that they remained there in Quebec even though he was born here in Vermont. I understand that his mother Mary did die young.
Domitille about whom I mentioned seems to have been adopted-according to the lady who told me about this family originally. I have no knowledge of this child nor of Joseph or Mathilde who were born in Longueuil prior to the birth of Gilbert.
I haven't found them crossing the border, but they seemed to have done so several times. And you see the Manning version of the family name coming into use.
Take care and thanks.
