Hello: You've had way more success than ahve I? Yes, I am not trying to use FamilySearch, but jsut recently. I got to know wbout Joseph and Louise were in Peru for 18 years and then Peter died in Bridport due to a letter that Joseph & Louise grandson George Manning wrote to a man who was doing research about the Mannings. If I hadn't become aware of that letter, I never would have known that Joseph and his family had come down from Quebec. A grandmother alerted me to the fact that Gilbert had settled in Shelburne, Vermont and had called himself Champlain at first and then Manning later. The children of Joseph and Louise who were born before Gilbert are virtually unknown. I found the 1850 census for Peru by asking for Gilbert in Clinton County-and up came Gilbert Champaign. The early children aren't shown so no idea if they remained behind in Quebec with grandparents or had died. Flossie Clark was the second wife of Gilbert. My grandmotehr knew Gilbert for about 6 years and said that he was a very nice old man, but Flossie was a regular witch. His first wife was Esther Coleman (Charbonneau) and was Indian, I think. She had gone to Arundel, Quebec to visit her daughter Mary, became very ill, and died there. The church service and burial was in Huberdeau. 1900 I can't believe all of the research that you have done on my behalf. Thank you so very much for this extreme kindness and consideration.
