Hello Crolyn: An aged uncle alerted me to some history or lore regarding this family. I learned that Gilbert's son George had written a letter which ended up in a book about the Mannings. The author assumed that this George Manning was of the Manning family of Duchess County in NY as well as those of Alburg, Vermont.
The letter told about Joseph and Louise living in Peru, NY for 18 years and then moving to Bridport, Vermont. There I found a death record for their son Peter. Apparently, Joseph supposedly died in Bridport in January of 1860 though there is no record found for that event.
Joseph married Elizabeth Louise Daudelin 2 June 1829 in Longueuil. They apparently had the following children:
Joseph- 23 Sept 1829-15 Jan 1830
Mathilde- 27 March 1830 adopted ? nothing more known
Joseph- 12 Oct 1830 nothing more known
Louise- 6 March 1832-30 Aug 1832
Domitille- 14 Aug 1833 nothing more known
Gilbert-3 July 1835 Mooers, Ny, bapt in Longueuil
Jane- 1839 Peru ?
Peter- 1841- 28 Sept 1859 Bridport
Caroline- 1843 ?
Josephine- 1845 married Redford, NY d. 1876
Franklin- 1847 ?
Albert- 10 Jan 1850- 8 Mar 1935 Keeseville, NY
A lady wrote to me several years ago and told me about my family being Magnan and not Manning. She provided much of this material.
Nothing more known of either Joseph or Elizabeth Louise
Take care Forrest
