Carolyn: Well, that fills in the blanks. A change in spelling made for this mystery. I never thought of using a different spelling for the family name. The parents were this Michel or Jacques Michel Daudelin as I've seen it and Louise Roi or Roy.

Our family name of Magnan became Manning when my ancestor Gilbert came over to settle in Shelburne, Vermont. Some of his brothers, however, decided to call themselves Champagne. Now that makes tracing this family rather difficult.

I used PRDH a little bit, but have tried to rely on for whatever I am able to find.

One more item if I may. Do you find a death in your Druin Collection for a Luc Magnan (Champagne) He was born about 1805 Longueuil, married 1826 (forgot his wife's name), had a son Luc Bertholomie Champagne, and then died before January 1843. In Jan 1843, his widow remarries. I have only the son and a daughter for Luc and his wife, though he may have had other children.

Luc's brother Joseph married Louisa Daudelin and was my ancestor.

Take care and many, many thanks.

Forrest in Middlebury, Vt.
