I may have found my g-g-mother, Mary Jane Shortsleeves (b. sept. 1872 in NY)but all info after her obit. is speculation.

Marys obit. states she was a life long resident of Troy, NY
She had several siblings including, Fred, Joseph, and David Albert Trank. sisters, Della Trank Canova and Mrs. William Tanner.

What I have found in NY census reports.

1910: Troy NY, 5th Avenue
Trank, Joseph 58, b. Canada, marr. 35 yrs.
Julia, 49, wife, b. ny, marr, 35yrs, had 10, 8 living
* 1st marriage for both. (marr. abt. 1875)
Joseph jr, 19, son, single, b. ny
Morris, 4, g-son.
Josephs age fits the info I have on MArys Trank brothers.

1900: Lansingburgh, NY
Trank, Joseph, b.July 1851 in NY, parents b. Canada
Julia,wife, b.Sept.1853 NY, parents Canada
10kids, 8 living
Jennie dau., Aug. 1874
Ida, dau, May 1884
William, son, May 1886
Della, dau, Oct. 1888
Joseph, son, Dec. 1891
* again, dates I have for Della, and Joseph fit.

1880 Schagticoke NY
Trank, Joseph, 25,
Julia, wife,24
Mary, dau. 7
Jennie, dau.5
George, son 3
David A, son 1

I believe this is Mary Jane Shortsleeves Rube family.
Mary would have been 2 or 3 when Joseph and Julia married.
Julia would have only been 16ish when she had Mary.
I have been told by my g-mother Julia Veronica Rube that she had been named for her g-mother.
I am thinking that Julias maiden name was Shortsleeves.

Working off that assumption, I find an 1870 census for Poestenkill, NY
Shortsleeves, John, 70, b. Canada
Mary, wife, 65, b. Canada
John jr, son 22
Mary, dau 21
Jane, dau 19
Julia dau. 16
Joseph son, 17
Peter son, 13
*all kids b. in NY
This is the only Julia Shortsleeves I can find in NY.
Also, her age is right.
Both her parents were b. Canada.

SO, my question is can anyone prove or disprove my hypothisis?
And, does anyone have any info on this family, esp. John Shortsleeves b. abt. 1800 Canada.
I too have heard the "Indian Theory" but I have no proof of it.
Funny how many people here have also heard it.
Thank you all for your time, any info would be greatly appreciated. This family has been very difficult to find!
