Re Ross & Gay
Hello I'm a gg granddaughter of Donald Ross and Olivia Gay. I've been researching my ancestors and have too come to the conclusion that Donald may be a son of John and Mary Nicholson (Nicolson). Donald married Olivia c 1836 and his children included Lewis Gay, Mary Alice, John James, Catherine, Daniel Edward, and Neil. Olivia's brother Lewis is the one that married Catherine Ross b 1803 and their children are John, Edward, Ephraim, and Mary Alice. It is too coincidental that both Donald and Catherine each have John, Mary Alice, and Edward's listed as children's names, and Donald has a Lewis and a Catherine listed also. As for Ewen Ross and Frances Lamont (MacDonald) listed as being Donald's parents, as told in family lore, Donald may have lived with them at one time after they were married, One of their sons was also named Donald. According to family lore it is said that Donald my gg grandfather also had two sisters named Christy (who may have been Christiana) and Annie (who may have been Margaret). When I was on the Island 3 years ago I had heard that my gg grandfather had come from the Vernon River area and not Flat River as some people had stated. If this is true then Donald is indeed a son of John and Mary Nicolson.
