Eileen,
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!
You have opened up that door for us, and much info is now making more sense.
RELIGION ISSUE - talking with senior family members, in comparing "Pentacost" with "Apostilic" close in sound, jogged some memories.
BIBLE ISSUE - Horace b 1872 could still read as first born son to MARY SHARP by Joel Foster, still allowing for children by Joel's first marriage.
PARENTS at weddings - It is possible that perhaps Joel's children referred to their stepmother as parent, if in fact she was 2nd wife.
I have referred to the 1861 Census, perhaps indicating "W Foster" age 23, most likely his wife, and almost certainly mother of children listed.
The notation in the Bible may in fact refer to a marriage year of 1855 for Joel and Mary.
It is also not impossible that Mary Sharp Foster (if she is "W") also had more children in her later years. In 1872 when Horace born, "W" would have been only 34 yrs, and the chances that she could still have had a child in 1882, then age 44, also acceptable.
Not knowing who made the entries in the Bible also adds to problem, and perhaps allows creating it from memory. Never a good thing to go by.
Still a mystery as to why whomever made the entries never listed the elder children, if in fact by Mary Sharp. I seriously doubt Joel married 2 Mary Sharps.
Thank-you again, and I see you are assisting again !
