Hess in Logan Township, Perth County 1871
I know this is a very big longshot. I believe my great, great grandfather, Conrad Hess was born in Germany in April of 1816. The earliest record I have of him is in the Canada Census of 1871 in Logan Township, Perth County, Ontario, Canada. So he had to emigrate from Germany sometime before that. The only child I know of that Conrad had was my great grandfather Henry Hess, who (I think) was born in Canada in September, 1856. I don't know who Conrad's wife was, but Henry married Cathryn Rock in 1878 in Ontario, Canada. There were family rumors that Conrad left a wife and kids in Germany and came to America. If any of this sounds familiar from your German geneology research, please let me know.
Conrad Hess was listed in the 1871 census as living with a household named Rock. Henry and Cathryn Hess emigrated to North Dakota in 1878. I believe that Conrad either emigrated with them at that time, or followed sometime later. Conrad is shown on the US Census living with Henry's family in North Dakota on the first couple of census's of the 1900's.
Thank you,
