McDonald and Soreau
I am searching for ANYTHING about my ancestors Jean-Baptiste McDonald and his wife Therese Soreau. These are the spellings of their names as listed in the marriage record of their son, Jean-Baptiste McDonald, in St. Charles, Missouri ca. 1800. The marriage record names his parents in Montreal and indicates that his father, Jean-Baptiste McDonald, was deceased. What is intriguing about this is that the son signed his marriage record in large, very legible writing as JOHN McDONALD. He married a French woman in St. Charles, which at that time was completely a French-speaking community.
I have not been able to find the marriage record of John McDonald and Therese Soreau. My guess is they were married in Montreal in the 1760s, but they might have been married in Ontario. There were Scottish McDonalds who had fought in the French and Indian War and remained in Canada. But I need some documentation.
Any hints would be deeply appreciated.
