Sons & daughters of William Birney and Abigail Land
Would like to correspond with anyone who has info on sons and daughters of Captain (?) William Burney and his wife Abigail Land, daughter of Robert Land and Phoebe Scott who were in Pennsylvania & New York, separated during Amer. Rev., Abigail to New Brunswick, Canada with her children, and then re-united at Hamilton, Ontario Canada with Robert.
Birney surname could be spelled several different ways; he died in Battle of Minisink July 1779, possible four children (or more)- Captain Joseph Birney; Captain John Land Birney, a daughter Phoebe Birney, another daughter Rebecca Birney who married Jabez Clarke who was born in Rhode Island, a son of Elisha Clarke and Desire Gardner.
(Captain)Joseph Birney or Burney is supposed to have come from Goshen in Orange County, New York.
Abigail Land re-married to Isaiah or Oziah McCarter in either New York State or New Brunswick- they had at least four children together, most likely there are others I have not yet identified, including possibly a Rhoda McCarter who married William Land and lived at Oxford County, Ontario- the four I have confirmed are John McCarter who married Maplet Flewelling, Mary McCarter who married Dr. Daniel Black of Gagetown, NB and then George Calvert of Nelson, Ontario; Elizabeth McCarter who married George Chisholm and Anna McCarter who married Captain Thomas Choate from Massachusetts.
Abigail Land Birney McCarter lived and died (November 21, 1826) in Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario as did three of her children, and some of their family members. Anna McCarter Choate lived and died at Glanford, Wentworth County, Ontario. I suspect this is where Abigail lived when she first arrived in Ontario (Wentworth County). I do not know what happened to Isaiah McCarter and would like to know more about him.
Anyone with info, please write to me. My McLean daughters are Black-McCarter-Land descendents.
Thank you from Nora in Alberta
