Hi Donna,

Glad I could help. I found a bit more - I knew that James and family must be in ON in 1990 census as Carrie was borna bout 1879 and her sister born 1882 so looked again and here they are, under MARSHEL

James T., age 29, fireman, born United States, Baptist

Sarah, age 25, born ON , Methodist

James, age 8, born United States, Baptist

Carrie, age 4, born ON Baptist

**so looks like they were in US earlier on when son James was born - I'll see if I can find a birth for him - I am guessing NY ?

So if this is right family and I am sure it is then children of James and Sarah were

James born about 1873 US, Carrie born about 1877 ON, Maty born 1882 ON, Olive born 1892 NY, George born 1898 NY .
Also from census Sarah is shown in 1900 as having 6 children born 5 living, and in 1910 7 born 6 living so they had somewhere around 6 or 7 children in all it seems.

I went back to familysearch to see what I could find in NY databases

James T., age 42, laborer born US

Sarah A., age 35, born Canada

James R. (might be B.) age 19, labourer, born US

Carry M., age 15, born Canada

Matie M., age 10, born US

Libbie, age 5, born US

Olive E., age 2, born US

so they have Matie's birthplace wrong. Also there is Libbie age 5, who is not with them in 1900 so likely one of the children who had died young.

I could not find the family in the 1905 NY state census - I tried various spellings of Marshall

I tried to find births of the children in NY but had no luck, also no luck with finding marriage for any of the children - even for Mattie and we know her husbands name - Arville Holmes.

I have ancestors in Niagara County NY also, and have had a hard time finding their birth, marriage and death records sor some reason.

There is a tree on ancestry that says James Marshall died about 1930 Buffalo, Erie, NY but they do not give any sources so who knows if the info is correct.

They show Sarah dying about 1935 Buffalo, but again no source

They also show Olive married to a James C. Pike with several children, showing Olive dying in 1985- no date and no place and no source

They have son George married to Mary Virginia Savini with 3 children. There is also a photo of George and his wife. It syas George was in the military in Y and it also says he and Mary eloped April 2, 1919 in Buffalo and show his death as April 2, 1962 Buffalo. He is their direct ancestor so this info on him seems more reliable ?
