The 1871 Census (UK) shows my Great Grandmother Catherine Dyer, a 'Scholar' of 15 yoa. as being born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1856., now living in Portsea, Hampshire, UK.
As there is no trace of her, or her mother and father on the previous 1861 Census it would appear that her father Richard J Dyer (b. 1829) who had been born in Devon,UK., had moved to Nova Scotia as a single man, sometime before this census was taken.
It looks as if he met his wife Martha.....?..... in N/S and that they married and had their first child Catherine before returning to the UK.
Catherine who married in 1876 at Portsea, Hampshire, is recorded in 1881 with her young family living in London.
Date and location of Richard & Martha's marriage?
Location of Catherine's birth in N/S.?
