Hi, I was wondering if you may know of a Capt. Hector Curtis, master mariner who in the 1928 Voter's List for Harbour Grace is living on Noad Street with a James, George and Sussanah Curtis. Capt. Curtis was originally married to Matilda Churchill daughter of Ezra Churchill, merchant of Portugal Cove. Their only child that I can find is an Ezra William Curtis, born St. Paul's Anglican Church records for 1897, H.G. In the Philadelphia, Penn 1910 census records, Hector's wife, Matilda is living with her widowed sister Mary Ann Paul (wife of William D. Paul) and her son, Ezra William is not listed in the census, did he die young? In the Twillingate News is a mention of a Capt. Hector Curtis who going to captain his first sealing vessel, could this be Matilda's husband? In the 1920 Philadelphia census, also living with her two maternal aunts is Amelia Colton Martin, born St. John's to John D. and Amelia Martin (John D.'s wife Amelia was another daughter of Ezra Churchill's. John D. and Amelia Martin eventually settle in King County, Washington, USA 1920. John D. operated a store in St. John's and his children were baptisted there in the Presbyterian Church. Any help is appreciated......
