Frederick ELLIS of St John's

My Mother's cousin Mary FERGUSSON married Frederick Hay ELLIS in New York in 1926.I have a copy of their marriage certificate. Fred was born in St John's about 1892 ,the son of Edwin Albert Ellis and Isobel Lucretia Friedlahn(can't read the name) Ifound Frederick in a 1913 Trade Directory,a clerk with Bowring Bros.,245 Southside Rd.
Mary was the daughter of Rev.Robert Menzies Fergusson & Isabella Haggart and was born in Logie,Scotland about 1890
I can't find Mary & Fred in the USA 1930 Census and wondered if they returned to St Johns.I would love to know what happened to them and if they had any family.
Another puzzle is Mary's Uncle ,Henry Fergusson who left his wife & son in Scotland about 1894 to go to Canada and disappeared ! I have heard a story that he was drowned off Cape Race which I have been told is in Newfoundland.Henry was a Veterinary Surgeon and was supposed to have made his fortune in Canada !!!!

Any help in my searches would be much appreciated.

Bo'ness ,Scotland
