Mary Lang & James Quigley - Newfoundland
Posted by: gary (ID *****5354) Date: July 25, 2005 at 19:41:11

I'd like to find out as much as I can about Mary Lang, James Quigley and their families, hopefully someone knows either or both of the families.

Mary Lang was born in Newfoundland about 1787 and died in Perth, Ontario Dec 23rd, 1880. James Quigley is believed to be from Wexford, Ireland. James enlisted in the Glengarry Light Fencibles 17 Jun 1813 at Charlettown. He was discharged in 1816 and received a land grant for his service.

There are conflicting dates as to when they married, one source indicates they married in 1803 and moved on to Kingston. Another source indicates James Quigley didn't arrive in Newfoundland until 1810 and they married 1813 or afterwards.

An obituary for their son James indicates he was born Feb 20, 1815 at the Bay of Quinte. Other children of James and Mary are Margaret, Phillip, John and Thomas.

Thanks
/gary
