Any researcher of the Phillips families having relations in the Whitbourne are of Newfoundland circa 1890. This particular family had thre sons: Patrick James Phillips, William James Phillips and James Michael Phillips. The family's children were separated presumably because of the death of the parents. Patrick and William ended up in Nova Scotia and are buried as Patrick James Cullen and James Patrick Cullen respectively. Documented explanation of name variation upon request. The third son's particulars are not known but may have survived childhood and kept his birth name of Michael James Phillips, unlike his two older brothers.
I have the partial birth records transcribed from the NF Archives for the Roman Catholic Baptisms of Whitbourne-1891-1916. Only persons with Phillips surnames were transcribed. The premise I am working on is that someone researching the Phillips of this time and place will have information on the family ties for this period of the community's history.
I have been contacted by one reseacher who believes one of these Phillips families ran a shop in the community but moved back to St. John's circa 1900. We have not been able to verify a relationship to each other's families to date. This other reseacher is immediately concerned with a Sarah Phillips family. She may be contacted through me if need be.
