Thanks for the reply. All I know about the McDonalds in Newfoundland is that they were there - somewhere. In US censuses a number of them show Newfoundland as their birthplace. Biographies of a couple mention that they came to the US through Newfoundland from Ireland. They left Ireland in the 1830s and arrived in Illinois in the early 1850s.
