Since Newfoundland didn't join Confederation until 1949, I don't think your Joseph Parker was born in Newfoundland. I'm trying to think what "Canada East" would be- possibly the Maritimes (are you sure it's St John's and not Saint John, New Brunswick?) Or maybe Quebec? Just guessing. Was "Canada East" written on a census? Maybe someone on the Canada board could give you more help.
