My Pike grandmother's people came from St. Lawrence at the tip of Burin Peninsula,and until the mid-1840s,their name was PIQUE.
There was an English/French family in Placxentia in French times,and their name was spelled as Pic,Picq, Pique,etc. The children of one Tom Pic started to spell their surname as Tompic....I'd be curious to know where they are today.Can't find any seemingly related ones on Google etc.There are some in Belgium,I think it is.
My own GGF was born John Gilbert Pique,as were a couple of siblings,but later siblings had their name listed as Pike. This can b e see in Burin baptism listings on the net.
John Gilbert was of course named after Gilbert Pike,and my GM had a strong connection to Harbor Grace Pikes....but then again you can see Burin from PLacentia on a clear day,so who knows ?!!
My own DNA shows ab out 9% Native American,but I know that basically came from my NA GGM,Mary Ellen Miller,of Port Royal,PB.
And right there I have struck a dead-end. Ward.
