Hi Heidi,
From the place and age this looks very likely to be her in census.
1901ST. JAMES, CHARLOTTE, NB
MOORE
Bertram L., age 40, born April 2, 1861 NB
Annie D., age 34, wife, born Aug. 16, 1866 NB
DOUGLAS
William, age 59, father in law, born Jan. 15, 1841
Sarah, age 57, mother in law born Oct. 18, 1843 NB
Jessie E., age 22, sister in law born Jan. 1, 1879 NB
1891ST. JAMES, CHARLOTTE, NB
DOUGLASS
William, age 49, born NB parents born Scotland
Sarah, age 49, wife, born NB parents born NB
Annie, age 23, daughter, born NB parents born NB
Bertha, age 16, daughter, born NB parents born NB
Jessie, age 12, daughter, born NB parents born NB
1881ST. JAMES, CHARLOTTE, NB
DOUGLASS
William, age 41
Sarah, age 38
Annie, age 14
Maud, age 13
Fred, age 13
Frank, age 9
Bertha, age 6
Jessie, age 2
all are shown born NB
1871 ST. JAMES, CHARLOTTE, NB
DOUGLES (as spelled in index)
William, age 31, born NB
Sarah, age 29, born NB
Annie A., age 5, born NB
Alice M., age 3, born NB
Frederick H., age 1, born NB
so as their eldest child is age 5 I think we can assume that Wm. and Sarah married sometime after the 1861 census so I am going to look for births of their children and for their marriage to hopefully find Sarah's maiden name for you.
I found marriage for Annie Douglass and Bertram Moore- Nov. 21, 1900 Charlotte, but it only shows her parents as William and Sarah Douglass BUT it does show Annie as born Moore's Mills, St. James, NB and that is also shown as her residence
witnesses Bertha and Walter Grimmers
and marriage for daughter Bertha to Walter l. Grimmer- July 28, 1896 Charlotte, and again parents only shown as William and Sarah Douglas BUT Bertha shown born Moore's Mills, and that is also her residence
witnesses were Annie and Jessie Douglas
I have not found marriages for the rest of the children, nor for Wm. and Sarah so she is still a bit of a mystery as to maiden name but from the Moore's Mills connection it does seem this is likely her and her husband and children
so missing marriages are
William Douglass and Sarah
Frank Douglass - no luck
Fred Douglass -no luck
Jessie Douglass - no luck
Maud Douglass
I thought that I would look in 1911 for Jessie as she was still unmarried in 1901 - she is not in 1911 as Douglass so probably married by then.
I found a few but when I checked the husband's for marriages they all married Jessie woman not Douglass surname
I also did not find Fred or Frank in 1911 NB census
Looked for any Maud women born about 1868 NB
checked husbands and they married Maud women other than Douglass
so not sure what happened unless Frank, Fred, Maud and Jessie married elsewhere?
Ahh, just found a tree that shows Annie A. Douglas, daughter of William Douglas and Sarah Eldridge
shows Annie married to Bertram Moore so that fits
and shows Sarah died 1905 - William died 1900 - both buried Moores Mills Rural cemetery
it also shows daughter Maud died may 3, 1885buried Moores Mills Rural cemetery
it shows son Frederick died Sept. 23, 1881 buried Moores Mills Rural cemetery
it shows son Frank C. died july 29, 1889 buried Moores Mills Rural cemetery
It shows Bertha married Walter Lemuel Grimmer but has no death for her
So if they are correct about the deaths and I think they are as they show headstones, then that explains not finding marriages for Frank, Fred and Maud.
it shows Jessie married a BATEMAN man and it shows her leaving England in 1910 arriving NY 1910
I looked at the 1910 passenger list and it shows
JessieEdith Bateman, age 31
residence England - Dartford
relative - husband (no name) Monk's Orchard, N. Dartford
she is going to New Brunswick
I looked for other passenger lists for her to confirm this was the right Jessie, and found her arriving in Canada in 1931
Jessie E. BATEMAN age 53, widow, born St. Stephen, NB Canada
destination Home, Moores Mills, St. Stephen, NB
and her arriving in England in 1928 - from New Brunswick
Jessie E. BATEMAN
Oakland Fountain Road, London, England
housewife
age 49
residence - England
and arrival in England 1933
Jessie BATEMAN
age 54
last residence Canada
address in England - Oakland Fountain Road, London, England
So with her coming and going from NB it certainly seems to fit for her but still cannot find a marriage for her, nor her first trip to England
did she marry there or in NB ?
I looked for any Bateman marriages in Charlotte NB but none with a wife Jessie that I could see
I looked for Jessie's death in England and there is one that could be her.
Jessie Bateman born about 1879 died 1955 Surrey Mid Easter, Surrey
Since 1910 shows her husband as in Monks Orchard Dartford, England I looked for Bateman in 1911 census and there she is
1911 DARTFORD, WILMINGTON, KENT, ENGLAND
MONKS ORCHARD, OAKFIELD LANE, DARTFORD
BATEMAN
James, age 40, glass merchant, born Wandsworth, London
Jessie E., age 31, wife, born New Brunswick, Canada (resident)
Annie L., age 8, daughter, born Croydon, Surrey
Douglas I., age 5, son, born Dartford, Kent
ELT
Maude A., age 40, governess, born Islington, London
CLARKE
Emma, age 36, cook, servant, born Suffolk
SMITH
Daisy, age 18, housemaid, servant, born Dartford, Kent
LORD
Kathleen, age 25 , house parlor maid, servant, born Northampton
well no wonder she could afford all those trips back to Canada - I'd
say she did very well for herself
so since daughter Annie was born about 1903 Jessie must have married soon after the 1901 Canada census took place
OK I just got lucky by looking for James - thinking maybe I could find him in passenger list but instead found his marriage to Jessie
and they married inMASS
James BATEMAN age 30, accountant, born England, residence Staten Island, NY - father James T. BATEMAN mother Catherine JACKSON
married
Jessie E. DOUGLASS age 23, born New Brunswick, residence Lowell, MA, father William Douglass mother Sarah
marriage took place in Lowell, MA, USAJune 12, 1901
I looked back at the 1901 Canada census and see it is dated April 26-17, 1901 so Jessie certainly could have gone to MA to live between then and her marriage to James.
