William Inch b. ca. 1824
As I go over the Canada Archives web sites for the various census returns I find that the transcription of surnames often leaves much to be desired. Another problem is segments of censuses, which clearly existed, have not been include. Parts of portland Parish, Saint John Co. are missing. I have enquired the reason for this, but have been ignored.
Perhaps a particular example is that of William Inch in Bright Parish, York Co., NB, page 34. He is age 44 and his wife, Margaret C., is age 44 as well. Children are: Emma A. (19), Thomas W. (16), George S. (14), James A. (12), Charles C. (6) and John N. (3). The reason I mention this is the name is transcribed as 'Treh', so anyone looking for them would never find them.
William is also likely the William Inch who m. 16OCT1851 Margaret C. Bogle. Both were of Petersville Parish, the 1851 census for which is missing. Emma was Emeline Amelia Inch (d. 3SEP1875 age 23 years) and a child apparently born shortly after the 1871 census was Anna Mary Inch (d. 4SEP1875 age 4 years). By 19OCT1875 four members of the family died of diphtheria. These included Thomas W. Inch (d. 15OCT1875 age 21 years).
William was probably a son of Nathaniel and Anne (Armstrong) Inch of Petersville Parish. In 1881 they were in Hampstead Parish. The 'Lenard' and 'Ellinor' Inch in Douglas Parish in 1851 were likely his brother and sister-in-law. Nathaniel's son, William (7SEP1827-13OCT1901), is said to have settled at Burtt's Corners. I doubt that it would be easy to find William in 1871 if one sought him in Queens Co. William Inch, son of Nathaniel and Ann Inch, from 'Hamstead' Parish was b. 7SEP1827 and baptized (probably at St. George's Chapel, Greenwich Parish) in Kings Co., NB 3MAR1828.
If someone is interested in the 'Treh' family of Bright Parish, I hope this is useful.
Thomas
