Whatever happened to Havelock Brown?
Havelock R(obert?) BROWN was b. c. 1858 in St. Martins (Quaco), New Brunswick, son of Harrington and Esther (Brown) BROWN. He married 1882 in Boston Ella RATHBUN, who was from Horton, Nova Scotia. They had five known children, all in Boston. Note that this is NOT the Havelock Brown who married Augusta Zwicker in Nova Scotia and remained there.
They may have had a rocky life; various census and city directory entries in the Boston area show them sometimes together, sometimes apart. He is not with her in the 1900 or 1910 census, but was still in the Boston area at least until 1893. Ella is "married" in the 1910 census, but "widowed" in 1920. Their last child was b. Dec 1891. But no death or burial record has been found for him anywhere.
Their first child, Frank W. Brown, died in Boston March 1883, and according to the record was buried in St. Martins, New Brunswick. The other children remained in the States; Ella died in Rhode Island in 1938.
Are burial/cemetery records available anywhere for the St. Martins area? I've found almost none so far. I would love to find Havelock and Frank. According to Daniel Johnson's collection, Harrington was buried "in Rural Cemetery of St. Martins," so it's possible Frank and Havelock also are there. Can anyone identify this cemetery further? Any records anywhere?
Those of you with long memories may recall another post from me about this guy back in 1998. Still looking.
