BASTARACHE/GALLANT/CARNEY--SHEDIAC/BOUCTOUCHE
I am trying to find more information on both sides of my French ancestors. My maternal grandmother (Lena Bastarache) was married to John Felix Carney and lived in Ashland, ME and Townsend, Mass mainly. She was born in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada.I know she had several siblings that were placed with various family after her mother’s death.Lena would have been one of the youngest, and I think she went to live with an uncle in the Ashland area, possibly a Beaulieu family.
• Any information on my Grandmother’s mother, siblings and cousins, etc.would be appreciated.
Lena’s father was Gilbert Bastarache and her mother was Catherine Gallant, daughter of Dusty Gallant, (born 1839 in New Brunswick), and Mary Gallant born around 1843.I am stalemated at the 1881 Census for the Gallant Family.
• I am seeking Mary’s maiden name and anything more about the family.
Catherine was born around 1880 in Shediac. She had at least 3 brothers:Alfred, Andrew and Godfreyaccording to the census of 1881 and at least one sister: Elizabeth.I think Catherine died in the influenza epidemic of WWI.Gilbert later married a Collette Nowlanbut I don’t know if he stayed in New Brunswick after the second marriage. His father was Phillip Bastarache, son of Anselme;his mother was Marie Dollard, and he had at least one sister, Emillienne Bastarache.Beyond Anselme and his wife CecileCormier I have not been able to go.
• Any help filling in the Bastarache gaps would be most appreciated.
