Clifton is now part of Niagara Falls, ONT and was in Welland Co., ONT. Probably in Willoughby Township, Welland County as that is where they were in the 1881 census. James t. 'Marshel' was age 29, born US, Baptist, Irish and a fireman (probably someone who maintained a steam engine rather than a firefighter.) Sarah was age 25, b. ONT, English and Methodist. The children (James, 8 and b. US; and Carrie, 4, b. ONT) were also Baptists and Irish.
According to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welland_County,_Ontario
Clifton was in Stamford Twp., Welland Co., ONT.

Thomas
