It is quite easy to trace NB ancestors, nowadays, Susan. You helped me many years ago when I was first starting out and since then I have 71 written pages on my Steel/e family and even traced them to the US. Thanks.
I just wanted to say that some of the records Susan gave can be seen in the original form for free.
BDM's at Provincial Archives of NB. Daniel Johnson's vital stats at the same site have been very useful to me. (free and searchable)
1871 and 1891 census at the National Library of Canada (free and searchable)
1851,1901 and 1911 census at automategenealogy.com (free and searchable)
1861 is on familysearch.org (free and searchable) but difficult since you have to make note of sheet numbers and line numbers to match up family members.
