I believe Martha E Whelpley's parents are James Whelpley and Eleanor Purdy. In the 1861 census of Kings County Martha age 8 is a daughter of James age 66 and Eleanor age 44 living in Kingston Parish. The marriage record of Martha's first marriage has her born in Long Reach which is the village in Kingston Parish where James farm was located. Although the transcript I use has the mother's first name as Eliz, the 1851 census and her newspapaer death notice call her Eleanor. The parents marriage record reads as follows: James Whelpley, widower, parish of Kingston/Eleanor Purdy, widow, parish of Westfield 30 Nov 184? [registered on 11 July 1849].

James Whelpley's parents are Jonathan Whelpley and Mary Kitchen. This relationship can be verified in a Soldiers Widow Petition by Mary Kitchen and Land Petitions by James and his brothers. Jonathan Whelpley served in the Loyal American Regiment Fowler's Company and came to NB as a Loyalist.
