Well, there was a Harry Walter Axtell b. MAR1891, d. Saint John Co., NB 16MAY1953, who m. Saint John, Saint John Co., NB 7JUL1926 Elizabeth Nichols/Robichaud (d. Saint John Co., NB 26MAR1954.) Also a William James Axtell who m. Saint John 27MAR1925 Rose Smallman. Walter, in 1911, is given as b. in NB, but I don't find him in the 1901 census. Walter was in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI in 1916 giving his birth as Quaco, Saint John Co. 21DEC1891. Judging by the 1911 census, 21MAR1891 seems closer. He names his next-of-kin as Mrs. W. Axtell, his mother. Then he turns around an enlists again in 1918 and gave his birth as at St. Martin Parish, Saint John Co., NB 22MAR1896. He gave a sister as Mrs. (?) Emma Axtell as next-of-kin, and that he lived in Centre Blissfield. Emma may be Emma Astley who had a daughter, Lillian Marguerite Astley b. Saint John 24FEB1910. She may also be the Emma Elizabeth Astley who d. 30JUN1931. Lillian Astley (FEB1909) was an 'inmate' at some sort of institution at 36 St. James St. in Saint John in 1911; but I can't make out what sort. Lillian died at that address 7OCT1911 age 1 year and 7 months. If I understand the notations, the funeral was ordered by the mother (unnamed) through a Mrs. W. F. Leonard of Queens St. Possibly W. F. was Walter F. Leonard, with a wife, Sarah Jane Hammond. what is interesting is that the Leonard's appear to be from Charlotte Co., and it is possible there were Axtell's in Charlotte Co., coming in by way of Maine. I can't get anything definite on that. In 1916, Walter stated that Emma Axtell was in a Municipal Home in East Saint John. Elizabeth Nichols 1st m. Saint John 29NOV1913 Nicholas Robichaud. There was also 1911 an orphan, Lizzie Nichols, b. JUN1894. There was an Elizabeth Beatrice Nichols b. 1886, but she m. George William Lynch. Thomas Notify Administrator about this message?
