I thought I answered a similar question before; but must have deleted it before posting it. In any case, this repeats much of what Suzanne has, with, perhaps a hint or two of the family’s origins. By the way, Suzanne, I am not trying to one-up you here. I actually did start this response yesterday, and it is of interest to be as a branch of the same family is closely connected with the family of James Flewelling, s/o Adam, s/o Thomas of Oak Point. Since members of both Bishop families went to Carleton Co., I needed to take a look at this one to distinguish them. Thomas ENOCH BISHOP b. ca. 1799, d. of cancer in the eye 15AUG1852, m. ca. 1839 ESTHER NIXON (b. NS ca. 1820-1, d. Simonds Parish, Carleton Co., NB 5JUN1898 age 78 years, bur. Lower Brighton, Cem., Carleton Co., NB.) Possibly a s/o Jonathan and Margaret (Anderson) Bishop; Jonathan’s will made Hopewell Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 17JAN1801 mentions children: Sary, Rebeckah, Phebe, Margret, James, Peter (b. ca. 1791), Dalton (b. ca. 1793), Charles and Enoch. The children were underage. Probably part of the Horton, Kings Co., Nova Scotia family; pre-Loyalists. Two branches of this family went to New Brunswick. One went to Queens Co., NB; the other to the Westmorland Co. - Albert Co., NB area. See: http://hometown.aol.com/dretgriffin/ If Enoch went to Carleton Co., he could be confused with his Queens Co. cousins who also went there. Also the Bishop family largely in the Perth-Andover area of what is now Victoria Co. sometimes are found in Carleton Co. Enoch and ‘Mrs.’ Bishop are in Woodstock Parish, Carleton Co., NB in 1851 as: Bishop Enoch M Father 52 Native Farmer Bishop Mrs F Wife 30 Native Bishop Wm C M Son 11 Native Bishop Delina F Daughter 9 Native Bishop Julia F Daughter 7 Native Bishop Mary F Daughter 5 Native Bishop Enoch M Son 3 Native There was also, in Kent Parish, a George Ann Bishop b. ca. 1839 lodging with a widow, Lydia Giberson, and her family. This is likely Georgiana Bishop who m. by the Rev. G. W. Orser 25AUG1860 Stephen O. Giberson; both of Kent Parish, Carleton Co., NB. Stephen Orser Giberson b. 12OCT1835, d. Mars Hill, Aroostook Co., ME 1MAR1912, m. Georgina Bishop (b. Bairdsville, Victoria Co., NB JUL1839), d/o Joshua and Phoebe Ann (Bishop) Orser. Georgina appears to have been a granddaughter of Lt. Samuel Bishop, a veteran of the 104th, and his wife, Nancy Ann McClure. I have seen nothing to connect him to the Horton, NS, and consequently the Queens Co. nor Albert Co., NB families. An Enoch Bishop b. ca. 1847, d. 30OCT1875 age 28 years, bur. Lower Brighton, Cem., Carleton Co., NB. As well as Esther (ca. 1820 - 1898), wife of Enoch; buried with him are: Jane Isabel Bishop (27FEB1843 - 15FEB1933) and William Cook Bishop (ca. MAR1840 - 20JUL1919 age 79 years and 4 months.) A Henry Bishop and Elizabeth Briggs had a daughter, Lillian Gertrude Bishop b. Centreville, Carleton Co., NB 7JUN1873. In 1871, in Wilmot Parish, Carleton Co., NB, Henry was age 32, b. NB, English, a day labourer and Free Christian Baptist. Elizabeth was age 25, b. NB, English and Free Christian Baptist. Children were: Ebben (7), Whitfield (4) and Walter (3.) A notice in a 31JAN1880 edition of the Woodstock, “Carleton Sentinel”, states that Henry Bishop, and several others, left Centreville, Carleton Co., NB for Leadville, Colorado; possibly on to Montana. Leadville has appeared before in my searches, and it appears that a number of New Brunswickers were attracted to the place; possibly a gold rush of sorts. If the same, then Henry would have missed both the 1851 New Brunswick census, and the 1880 US census. Isaac Bishop, m. the Methodist Parsonage, Woodstock, Carleton Co., NB by the Rev. G. M. Campbell 22MAR1884 Ada R. Graham. This is likely DEAN ISAAC BISHOP b. ca. 1853, d. Duluth, MN, m. Methodist Parsonage, Woodstock, Carleton Co., NB by the Rev. G. M. Campbell 5APR1884 ADA ROSILLA GRAHAM (b. Red Bank, Queens Co., NB ca. 1867, d. Duluth, MN), d/o David and Eliza Graham; where Isaac is the s/o John and Lenora Ann (Demmons) Bishop of the Queens Co., NB branch. In Simonds Parish, Carleton Co., NB in 1891, Esther lived with Henry and Thankful ‘Darkis” as: Darkis, Henry M 30 M NB Ire NB B farmer Darkis, Thankful F 27 M W NB 11 It Darkis, Minnie F 5 D 11 If 11 Bishop, Esther F 69 W Dom NS Ire Ire FCB children: 1.
