Thomas, I have been away for the week or I would have replied sooner. I really appreciate all the time you spent on this. I will be printing it out and going over it in detail. Hopefully someday I will be able to find a clue as to the correct Peter Thompson. I suspect my William may have come from the New Brunswick clan, but would love to prove it one day. My grandfather (the Thompson descendant) died almost four years before I was born so I was never able to ask him about his family. His own father died when he was 18 and people didn't talk about their black ancestry in the early to mid 20th century US. That compounded the challenges in working this line. My black ancestors came to the US from Canada c1870, passed themselves off as white and married white.

Again, Thank you so much for all you have found. I read it with much interest. I will have to recheck the births, marriages & burials for the family members of my William Thompson in Berthier Co. Maybe I will find he had a friend who also came from the same area where he was born. There must be a clue somewhere.
